Naturopathic Medicine

Every person is unique and so is their body. As a result, all of our holistic naturopathic and nutrition programs are individualized.

Dr. Jake Shettell will assess your current breast health and show you how gradual shifts – starting right where you are – will support your health and healing.

At Thermography for Health NY, Dr Jake Shettell, ND offers a comprehensive approach that empowers you to understand and take control of your breast health using his comprehensive Breast Health Assessment and natural therapies.

What is the Breast Health Assessment?

The Breast Health Assessment is a combination of evidence-based and evidence-informed questions that gives us insight into the positive and negative factors influencing your breast health.

It helps us know how you would benefit from further lab testing and how we can utilize natural therapies.

Current risk models only take into account a few data points. We, on the other hand, try to use a comprehensive approach that empowers you to understand and take control of your breast health.

The Breast Health Assessment is also a great tool to accompany your breast imaging, including thermographic imaging.

What is Naturopathic Medicine?

Naturopathic medicine, as defined by the American Association of Naturopathic Medicine, is a “distinct primary health care profession, emphasizing prevention, treatment, and optimal health through the use of therapeutic methods and substances that encourage individuals’ inherent self-healing process. The practice of naturopathic medicine includes modern and traditional, scientific, and empirical methods.”

What do Naturopathic Doctors do?

In many states, Naturopathic Medical Doctors (NDs) are licensed to practice medicine in the same way that Family Doctors or Primary Care Physicians practice medicine. In licensed states, we recognize and diagnose disease in the same way as our allopathic friends, we often differ, however, in our treatment approaches and the depth of our overall clinical investigations.

If needed, we dive deep into your signs, symptoms, and health history, utilizing specialty labs to further help us understand the root cause of your symptoms. Our approach is comprehensive. Naturopathic philosophy, together with the latest research, guides us in selecting the tools we use to optimize your wellbeing.

Naturopathic doctors take an oath to follow the 6 principles of naturopathic medicine which are 1) First do no harm 2) Trust the healing power of nature 3) Identify and treat the root cause 4) Treat the whole person 5) Doctor as teacher 6) Prevention is the best cure

We honor the naturopathic therapeutic order which can include removing the obstacles to cure, establishing the foundations of health, stimulating the body’s ability to heal, supporting and nourishing weakened systems, restoring proper structural integrity, and using time-honored and evidence-based natural remedies. If this is insufficient then drugs and surgery can be considered.

What training do NDs have?

Naturopathic Doctors attend a 4-year medical school at an accredited institution and pass two sets of board exams. During the last two years of their training they intern in various clinical settings under the close supervision of licensed professionals.

Naturopathic Doctors are trained in general medicine, clinical nutrition, homeopathy, botanical medicine, naturopathic physical manipulation, environmental medicine, hydrotherapy, IV and injection therapy, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, mind-body medicine, minor surgery and Traditional Chinese Medicine. This extensive training allows us to utilize a variety of modalities, often synergistically, in helping patients heal and regain their wellness.
